BEN CONTRERAS has been involved in the Southern California Marching Band community for 28 years. He started his marching arts career in San Diego, playing trumpet and spinning as a parade drum major. He was awarded both the John Philips Sousa Award and the Semper Fi Award for Musical Excellence in high school. After picking up rifle his senior year and joining a local independent winter guard after graduation, Ben moved on to march with the Santa Clara Vanguard (1998 & 1999), Fantasia Winterguard (1999-2003) Corona (2005). He was also a performer in the Disney’s California Adventure Cast of “Blast!”.

Ben has been involved with many Southern California programs such as Ayala, Chino, Riverside King, Mt Carmel, Great Oak, and Murrieta Valley, as well as groups in Nevada, Hawaii, and Arizona. He currently is the Color Guard Director at Rancho Buena Vista and Mission Hills High School.

Ben also has extensive experience with the drum and bugle corps world, having worked for the Colts (2004-2005), The Academy (2007), Gold (2011), and the Santa Clara Vanguard Cadets (2012-2016). Ben is also the Founder and Director of Vox Artium Winterguard, a WGI Championships Independent Open finalist from 2016 to 2018.

Ben was inducted into the 2018 WGASC Hall of Fame in 2018, and is now in his second year as the WGASC VP of Member Relations.
