ANDY SMART studied music education and performance at the University of Colorado in Boulder. He marched in the Blue Knights Drum & Bugle Corps for six years, aging out in 1999 as drum major. Andy went on to teach the corps for over ten years after that as a brass technician, consultant, and as caption head for six of those years. In the summer of 2018, Andy was inducted into the Blue Knights Hall of Fame for the first year of its existence. He has also worked in various capacities on brass teams for Carolina Crown, the Troopers, Colts, Boston Crusaders, and Aimachi.

During his age-out year, Andy was the DCI Individual & Ensemble soprano champion. Immediately following that summer, he joined the inaugural Blast! cast as one of the featured trumpet soloists. He stayed with Blast! through 2005, following London, Broadway, and several US, Europe and Japan tours. Andy has been performing with local Denver groups since college as well as working as a composer and arranger with over 60 competitive high school marching band wind scores across the US and Japan to his name. Andy currently lives with his daughter Cordelia in Denver, where he works as a software engineer.
